Benihana of Tokyo at Hilton Hawaiian Village

Located in the heart of Waikiki, the restaurant has been in the Hilton Hawaiian Village Resort & Spa for over 40 years.  Unlike the last refurbishment done over a decade ago, this renovation project pursued for a new look: a new and evolved Benihana that embraced its history.  The design challenge was to incorporate classical Japanese qualities in a modern way to compliment the over 200 years old farmhouse from Japan.

The design intention was to bring out Benihana’s identity and Japanese qualities using modern materials to make a distinctive difference from other teppan-yaki (a type of Japanese cuisine where food is prepared in front of the customers using an iron griddle) restaurants.  As the first teppan-yaki restaurant that was established in the United States, the major consideration was to convey that architecturally.
